Well that's one way to present your dissertation...

Darkfrog submitted, created time 1 month 2 weeks (sciencenow.sciencemag.org)

This isn't quite as serious as our usual DiscoveR8 fare, but it has potential implications for science education and public image. You guys have often heard me give Science magazine the dubious praise, "You would NEVER see this in Nature." Something else that I say all the time, though, is, "My feelings can only be expressed through dance."

Science magazine sent out a rather interesting call for not-exactly-papers. The challenge was "Tell us about your Ph.D. research ...through dance."

I have actually had this in mind for a while, ever since I heard about the NASA guys high-fiving once the first Mars rover touched down safely a few years back. YouTube videos of scientists dancing or even just a series of reaction shots... It would be hard to better express the risk, patience and personal cost of scientific research than to film people finding out that it's all just paid off. That's not exactly what Science did here, but it's a start.

Science received thirty-six videos ranging in content from ballet solos to full-on circus bonanza numbers. The winners are up on sciencemag.org today.

And what do they win? The right to interpret their next scientific paper through dance ...this time with some help from a professional choreographer.
