Amnesia produced by altered release of neurotransmitters after intraamygdala injections of a protein synthesis inhibitor

sumsung submitted, created time 1 year 5 months (www.pnas.org)

Amnesia produced by protein synthesis inhibitors such as anisomycin provides major support for the prevalent view that the formation of long-lasting memories requires de novo protein synthesis. However, inhibition of protein synthesis might disrupt other neural functions to interfere with memory formation.

Profilin2 contributes to synaptic vesicle exocytosis, neuronal excitability, and novelty-seeking behavior

cappuccion submitted, created time 1 year 7 months (www.nature.com)

"Profilins are actin binding proteins essential for regulating cytoskeletal dynamics, however, their function in the mammalian nervous system is unknown. Here, we provide evidence that in mouse brain profilin1 and profilin2 have distinct roles in regulating synaptic actin polymerization with profilin2 preferring a WAVE-complex-mediated pathway."

Synaptic Ca2+ in Darkness Is Lower in Rods than Cones, Causing Slower Tonic Release of Vesicles

fiona submitted, created time 1 year 7 months (www.jneurosci.org)

"Rod and cone photoreceptors use specialized biochemistry to generate light responses that differ in their sensitivity and kinetics. However, it is unclear whether there are also synaptic differences that affect the transmission of visual information. Here, we report that in the dark, rods tonically release synaptic vesicles at a much slower rate than cones, as measured by the release of the fluorescent vesicle indicator FM1-43
