Exhaled methyl nitrate as a noninvasive marker of hyperglycemia in type 1 diabetes

lewis submitted, created time 1 year 3 months (www.pnas.org)

Recent technical advances allow detection of several hundred volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in human exhaled air, many of which reflect unidentified endogenous pathways. Our group has previously estimated plasma glucose levels in healthy adults during a standard oral glucose tolerance test via exhaled VOC analysis.

Plasma lyso-phosphatidylcholine concentration is decreased in cancer patients with weight loss and activated inflammatory status

Scarlett submitted, created time 1 year 5 months (www.lipidworld.com)

LPC concentrations were decreased in cancer patients. LPC plasma concentrations correlated with weight loss and inflammatory parameters and, therefore, might be a general indicator of severity of malignant disease.

Estradiol-Dependent Decrease in the Orexigenic Potency of Ghrelin in Female Rats

athena submitted, created time 1 year 8 months (diabetes.diabetesjournals.org)

"Ghrelin, the only known orexigenic gut hormone, is secreted mainly from the stomach, increases with fasting and before meal initiation in humans and rats, and increases food intake after central or peripheral administration

The Impact of Maternal Glycemia and Obesity on Early Postnatal Growth in a Nondiabetic Caucasian Population

amanda submitted, created time 1 year 9 months (care.diabetesjournals.org)

"In a nondiabetic cohort, the effect of maternal glycemia on birth weight is transitory, while the impact on growth of maternal BMI continues into early childhood. The independent association of paternal BMI with offspring postnatal growth suggests that the impact of parental BMI could be explained by genetic factors, shared environment, or both. "

Tipping the gatekeeper: S1P regulation of endothelial barrier function

alpha submitted, created time 1 year 9 months (www.sciencedirect.com)

"The lysophospholipid sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) is a pleiotropic signaling lipid present constitutively in plasma, and secreted locally at elevated concentrations at sites of inflammation. S1P maintains essential variable homeostatic functions in addition to inducing pathophysiology through the activation of five specific high-affinity G-protein-coupled receptors."
