Expression of the glutathione S-transferase, GSTP1 is associated with phase 1 detoxification of the products of oxidative stress. Recently GSTP1 expression has been implicated in the regulation of cell proliferation and apoptosis through direct interaction with the c-Jun NH2 terminal kinase, (JNK).

Interaction of P53 Arg72Pro and MDM2 T309G polymorphisms and their associations with risk of gastric cardia cancer

A joint effect between the MDM2 and P53 polymorphisms in intensifying GCA risk was detected, with the OR for the presence of both MDM2 390GG and P53 72Pro/Pro genotypes being 5.05 (95% CI, 2.50–10.20). These results suggest that the P53 72Pro and MDM2 309G polymorphisms contribute to the risk of developing GCA.

Our data suggest that the risk of SCCHN may be associated with these two SNPs of BAX and BCL2 promoter regions in SCCHN, particularly among TP53 heterozygotes. Larger studies are needed to validate these findings.

The central melanocortin system is critical for the long-term regulation of energy homeostasis. Melanocortin-3 receptor (MC3R) knock-out mice, despite being hypophagic, have increased fat mass and higher feed efficiency than do their wild-type littermates. The aim was to evaluate whether, in childhood obesity, MC3R variants are associated with changes in fatness reduction as a consequence of a weight-reduction program. No new mutations were found.
