Expression of the glutathione S-transferase, GSTP1 is associated with phase 1 detoxification of the products of oxidative stress. Recently GSTP1 expression has been implicated in the regulation of cell proliferation and apoptosis through direct interaction with the c-Jun NH2 terminal kinase, (JNK).

A joint effect between the MDM2 and P53 polymorphisms in intensifying GCA risk was detected, with the OR for the presence of both MDM2 390GG and P53 72Pro/Pro genotypes being 5.05 (95% CI, 2.50–10.20). These results suggest that the P53 72Pro and MDM2 309G polymorphisms contribute to the risk of developing GCA.

Our data suggest that the risk of SCCHN may be associated with these two SNPs of BAX and BCL2 promoter regions in SCCHN, particularly among TP53 heterozygotes. Larger studies are needed to validate these findings.

Effect of the melanocortin-3 receptor C17A and G241A variants on weight loss in childhood obesity
broadcast submitted, created time 1 year 8 months (www.ajcn.org)
The central melanocortin system is critical for the long-term regulation of energy homeostasis. Melanocortin-3 receptor (MC3R) knock-out mice, despite being hypophagic, have increased fat mass and higher feed efficiency than do their wild-type littermates. The aim was to evaluate whether, in childhood obesity, MC3R variants are associated with changes in fatness reduction as a consequence of a weight-reduction program. No new mutations were found. Two previously described polymorphisms, C17A (Thr6Lys) and G241A (Val81Ile), were observed in 20 patients in almost complete linkage disequilibrium

Dietary folate and alcohol consumption as well as polymorphic variants in one-carbon metabolism genes may modulate risk of colorectal adenoma through aberrant DNA methylation and altered nucleotide synthesis and repair. We assessed the association of 24 non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (nsSNPs) in 13 genes in the one-carbon metabolism pathway and risk of colorectal adenoma in 556 incident cases and 557 controls nested in the Nurses' Health Study

"Aldosterone plays essential roles in body fluid and electrolyte homeostasis and blood pressure. However, the association between polymorphisms in the CYP11B2 gene and hypertension is controversial."

"The serotonin transporter gene promoter polymorphism (5-HTTLPR) has been repeatedly associated with antidepressant response in mood disorder patients, but findings are not consistent across studies. A meta-analysis was performed on 15 studies including data of 1435 subjects. We tested three phenotypes: remission rate, response rate and response rate within 4 weeks using the cochrane review manager. We observed a significant association of the s/s variant of 5-HTTLPR with remission rate (P
